RALEIGH, NC — In an effort to draw attention to Ebola, the disease ravaging west Africa, Raleigh man Van Baxter on Wednesday doused himself with ice water while wearing a Tyvek hazmat suit, respirator and gloves.
“You don’t hear much about Ebola, but it’s real. And it’s out there. Wake up, people,” said Baxter. Ebola is mentioned less than 95% of the time on prime-time newscasts, he noted, and even then its coverage is limited to NBC, CBS, ESPN, MSNBC, Fox, PBS, The Daily Show, ABC, Telemundo, CNN, and the Huffington Post.
To help stop the spread of Ebola in his community, Baxter plans to stop eating and having sex with fruit bats.
